What are precision cut gemstones? They are gemstones meticulously cut for proportion, symmetry and ultimate light reflectivity. Great care and much time goes into making precision cut gems. Tremendous amount of work is put into making a symmetrical, light reflecting beacon optimized to gather as much light as possible in a tiny form factor - and shine it back at the observer. The result is sparkles upon sparkles, and ultimately a very happy gem owner.
Are lab-made gemstones the same as natural gems? Yes, and no. Lab-made gemstones possess the same PHYSICAL and CHEMICAL properties as the ones mined from the earth. Lab-made gemstones are usually more optically clear than earth mined ones and a LOT less expensive than their earth mined counterparts.
Are the gems you sell durable? Yes. Every gemstone sold by me features a Mohs scale of hardness rating. The scale runs from 1 to 10, with 1 being the softest material and 10 being the hardest. Most gemstones I sell fall between 7 and 9 on the scale which makes them durable enough for everyday wear.
Can you cut a gemstone for me? Absolutely. Please contact me to discuss all available options.
What is the difference between Flame Fusion and the Czochralski method? The difference is the way that the corundum (ruby or sapphire) crystal is produced. You can find in-depth details in this blog post, but the short of it is that the Czochralski method produces a more expensive, purer, more uniform crystals than flame fusion. In most cases, selecting which type rough is used for a finished gemstone is personal preference.
